I never considered myself a “foodie” as I’ve always been a picky eater. I rarely find delicacies that I can’t get enough of. However, it all changed after I discovered Soul R. Café.
The Italian-style restaurant is located in a quiet alley near Sec 3, Zhongxiao E. Rd. The interior design of the café is original, and I have to say the staff members working here are all very cute and nice – well I guess that’s because they all follow a compassionate vegan diet and love animals ☺
I’ve known this restaurant for years, and every time I go back to Taipei I’d go there. I’ve seen how their business has grown and how veganism is becoming more and more main stream.
The restaurant looks neat and simple with black walls and wooden tables.
Their cuisine is mostly French and Italian. There’re risottos, pasta dishes, burgers, sandwiches, soups, salads, smoothies, waffles, cakes, puddings, and a whole page of different drinks. These are my favorite:
Soul R. Spaghetti (you can switch to penne for all pasta dishes)
Bacon Alfredo Spaghetti
Vegan Berry Waffle (yep, that’s vegan whip cream!)
You can have three different combos:
Set A. with salad and French bread
Set B. with salad, French bread and soup
Set C. with 15% off of all drinks and desserts
Did you think that salad is just a bunch of cut veggies on a plate? This is definitely something more! Their Caesar salad dressing will make you fall in love with veggies even if you didn’t.
Other popular dishes include Fried ‘Shrimps’ (but I’ve been so scared of seafood since I was a child, so even if it’s vegan I still haven’t tried it. I heard it’s really good though!)
Hungarian Vegan Goulash Risotto
Sicilian Mushroom Risotto
Chocolate Soy Milk
Chocolate and Banana Ice Cream Waffle
Vegan Chocolate Pie
OK I know you’re all hungry already, so I’ll stop here. For other yummy dishes, you’ll have to go in person to check them out! Every time I go to Soul R. Café I feel so happy because I can enjoy delicacy without causing suffering to any victims. No animals need to suffer for my taste.
We might feel we can’t help with the deteriorating terrorist attacks. We might feel powerless about helping refugees fleeing from the Middle East to Europe. But each and every one of us can stop violence and create peace now. We can change the world and turn it into a more peaceful and compassionate one. The easiest way is to start from changing what we eat, three times a day.
Next time when you’re in Taipei, don’t miss this out! Remember to make a reservation first.
